KARACHI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Samiul Haque) (JUI-S) has given a strike call for Friday over the killing of Mufti Usman Yar Khan, which has been backed by Ahle Sunnat Wal Jammat (ASWJ).
Addressing a press conference here at Madrassa Darul Khair, JUI-S spokesman Maulana Yousuf Shah said the strike is being held to protest the authorities’ failure to arrest the assassins of Mufti Usman. The press conference was also attended by leaders and Ulema from other religious groups.
Mufti Usman lost his life when his vehicle was sprayed with bullets by unknown assailants on Sharea Faisal last Friday.
To a question regarding Maulana Samiul Haq’s going ahead with the peace talks with the Pakistani Taliban, Maulan Yousuf Shah said that details in this regard will come out in the next two-three days.
He, however, added that the Prime Minister handed over the task of Taliban talks to Maulana Samiul Haq but never again contacted the latter since.
ASWJ leader, Allama Aurangzaib Farooqui on the occasion regretted that the incumbent government has failed to establish peace.
