ISLAMABAD: The government committee has excused itself from meeting with the committee constituted by the Taliban today (Tuesday), Geo News reported.
According to sources, the coordinator for the government's committee, Irfan Siddiqui informed Maulana Samiul Haq about the decision.
Siddiqui said clarification over the status of the Taliban’s committee was needed after PTI chairman Imran Khan and JUI-F leader Mufti Kifayatullah had excused themselves from the team nominated by the Taliban. .
Earlier, the government’s committee held a meeting to deliberate on the formation of the Taliban’s committee and other matters.
According to Geo News senior anchor Hamid Mir, there were differences among members of the government's team over the time for talks given by Irfan Siddiqui to Maulana Samiul Haq.
The meeting was attended by Irfan Siddiqui, Major (retd) Aamir, Rahimullah Yousafzai and Rustam Shah Mohmand.
The committee formed by the government and Taliban were due to hold their first meeting in Islamabad at 2:00 PM today.
The Taliban committee comprises Maulana Samiul Haq, Professor Ibraheem and Maulana Abdul Aziz.
