SYLHET: Netherland staged a major upset as they beat Ireland in the qualifying round of the T-20 World Cup at Sylhet Friday to qualify for the Super 10s.

Netherland needed to win this match by a big margin to qualify for the Super 10 and that is exactly what they did overcoming a stiff total of 189 in just 13.5 overs.

A partnership of 101 from Andrew Poynter and Kevin O'Brien helped Ireland reach 189 for 4 from their 20 overs and left them on the verge of qualification for the Super 10s stage, however, the Dutch hit boundary after boundary, including 19 sixes, in reply and reached their target in just 13.5 overs.

The Netherlands broke the world record for the most runs from a power play (91), the fastest team to 100 (seven overs) and most sixes in an innings at 19.

The match also broke the world record for the most sixes in a 20/20 game with 30.

The Irish got to a good total through good contributions from AD Poynter(57 off 38 balls 4x4 4x6) KJ O'Brien(42 off 16 balls 2x4 4x6) WTS Porterfield(47 off 32 balls 5x4 2x6 ).

MA.Jamil bowled well for the Dutch to finish with 2 for 36.

In reply Netherland got to the total in just 13.5 over. SJ Myburgh(63 off 23 balls 4x4 7x6) TLW Cooper ( 45 off 15 balls 1x4 6x6) were the star performers.
