LAHORE: Muttahida Qaumi Movement(MQM) MNA Tahira Asif, who was shot in broad daylight on Wednesday, succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital during her treatment on late Thursday night.
She was attacked by two unidentified men in the Allama Iqbal Town police precincts on Wednesday.
Tahira was a PML-Q MNA in the 2002-07 assembly and later joined MQM, returning to the parliament on a reserved seat from Sindh after the 2013 elections.
Tahira Asif left her Wafaqi Colony residence at around 1:45pm along with her daughter and was attacked by two unidentified men while on her way to Islamabad. The attackers riding a Honda 125 bike intercepted her vehicle near Bismillah Chowk in Allama Iqbal Town.
The armed men shot at Tahira Asif when she opened the door of the driving seat, as a result of which she received four bullet wounds; two on her ribs and two on her legs. The MQM MNA was shifted to the hospital after her daughter stopped a Rescue-1122 vehicle and requested them to shift her mother to the hospital.
Tahira Asif was taken to Sheikh Zayed Hospital where she was operated upon and received a blood transfusion as she had lost a lot of blood due to the gunshot wounds.
After the operation, all the bullets were removed from her body and she was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit(ICU).
