Toxic liquor claims 29 lives in Karachi
KARACHI: Twenty-nine people lost their lives in the last 24 hours after they consumed homemade liquor in Karachi, Geo News reported on Thursday.

According to Emergency head Dr Seemi Jamali, the death toll climbed to 29 after five more died today at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Twenty-five people are still being treated at the hospital out of which five are still in critical condition.




Police told that the toxic homemade liquor was bought from Sharafi Goth and Shah Latif Town where police conducted raids and arrested two suspected persons while four SHOs were also suspended on the charges of negligence towards the unrestricted sale of liquor in those areas.

The SHOs of Landhi, Korangi, Zaman Town and Sharafi Goth were suspended while inquiry against two DSPs is also underway.

Initial investigation revealed that the toxic liquor was bought from the vicinity of Malir District.
