Fehmida pins hopes on judiciary as Mirza appears in ATC
KARACHI: Former National Assembly speaker Fehmida Mirza has expressed the hope that the judiciary would support her, a day before her husband appears in an-anti terrorism court.

Speaking to media at her residence on Friday, she said all the FIRs against her husband Zulfiqar Mirza were registered at the behest of a person, whose name she avoided to disclose.

She said PPP did not do her a favour by choosing her as National Assembly speaker as she fulfilled the criterion for the post. “Party took 10 days to get me appointed as speaker despite my repeated refusals”

She said she hopes the court too will support her like media did. “Had there been no media, nobody knows what would have happened,” she added.

Meanwhile, the roads leading to the ATC have been blocked as part of security arrangements.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) granted protective bail to estranged Pakistan People’s Party leader and former home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza in two cases for 10 days on Friday.

Three cases have been registered against him under the Anti-terrorism Act 1997 over charges of attempting murder, attacking a police station and forcibly shutting down shops in a market in the Badin district. He is on protective bail in these cases till Saturday (today).

Mirza has been booked in two more cases for attempting murder and obstructing public servants from performing their duties.
