Marvel Studios' television series Ironheart finally took off in Hollywood on Monday (June 23) after a lengthy trip to the small screen.

Originally shot in 2022 for a 2023 release, the series follows young technological genius Riri Williams, who was introduced in 2022's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever".

Expelled from college, Riri, played by Dominique Thorne, tries to fund her ambition to perfect an Iron Man suit by joining a group of skilled thieves, led by The Hood (Anthony Ramos).

As she gets deeper into the criminal world, she realizes she has to get her brain not just around technology but magic as well.

Thorne told Reuters, "I hope that it riles people up, that it makes them excited, that it gets juices flowing. I hope that young girls also watch it and feel like 'Yeah. Let me be who I am. Let me stand in that truth. Let me stand in that power.'"

But her journey from technology expert to superhero isn't an easy one. Throughout the series, Riri is faced with important decisions and sometimes her actions aren't what you'd expect from a conventional superhero.

"Oh man, it was fun. It was good, it was fun. It was nice to get to shake things up a little bit and to notice 'Oh, this is not the typical... This is a human!', who's leaning into it for better or worse. She's leaning into the fact that she doesn't know," said Thorne.

The series also stars Alden Ehrenreich as a fellow inventor, and Lyric Ross plays Riri's A.I. helper N.A.T.A.L.I.E., who is also an embodiment of her dead best friend.

Ross wasn't able to talk about her character for three years and now Ironheart is due to start streaming on June 24, she no longer has to lie about her key role in the series.

"Oh my gosh, is relief a strong enough word?," Ross said, adding, "We put a lot into this, a lot of blood, sweat and tears and you know, I'm just happy everything is coming into fruition right now and we get to see all of the good things to come out of it - hopefully it's good things to come out of it. We made something special."
