Major crackdown against Hurriyat leaders in IHK
SRINAGAR: The authorities have launched a massive crackdown against Hurriyet leaders and activists to thwart conducting of public meetings in connection with the farcical election boycott campaign in the Indian Held Kashmir (IHK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police during house raids arrested Hurriyet leaders including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Yousuf Naqash, Mohammad Abdullah Tariq, Bashir Ahmad Butt, Ghulam Rasool Dar and others and lodged them in Rajbagh police station in Srinagar.

The crackdown continued till last reports came in. Police also arrested several leaders and activists of Tehreek e Hurriyet Jammu Kashmir including Ayaz Akbar from various places.

On the other hand the Indian police while encircling the Maisuma area in Srinagar arrested the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik who had to address a press conference regarding the election boycott.

Meanwhile the Vice Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, in a statement, denounced the police action against pro- liberation leaders and activists.
