Heatwave continues as mercury touches 47 in Nawabshah
KARACHI: Parts of the country remained in the grip of scorching heat as temperature neared 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday with mercury shooting up to 47 in Nawabshah district.

The highest temperatures were recorded in Nawabshah at 47, Sukkur with 43, Khanpur 41, and Dera Ghazi Khan at 40 degrees Celsius.

Roads wore a deserted look as punishing heatwave hit several parts of the country where people rushed to bathe in canals to beat the heat.

The temperature in Bahawalnagar, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Jhang, Khuzdar, Okara, and Toba Tek Singh was recorded at 39 degrees. Mercury touched 38 in Lahore and Bahawalpur, while in Jehlum, Multan and Sahiwal it was recorded at 37.

Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin remained relatively cooler at 36 degrees while in Karachi, Gwadar and Peshawar the temperature was recorded at 35 degrees Celsius.
