Accused held for firing on Wasim Akram
KARACHI: The Sindh Police have made a development in connection with a firing incident involving Pakistan cricket team's former captain Wasim Akram as an accused is arrested here on Friday.

Sources told Geo News that the nabbed suspect is said to be a private security guard. Police is striving to bring his employer to book, who is still at large.

The owner of the vehicle was also present at the time of the incident that took place on Wednesday, they added.

The vehicle of former skipper was fired upon in the Karsaz area of the city after what police described as an incident fuelled by ‘road rage’.

The legendary left-arm fast bowler remained safe in the incident.

Wasim had told Geo News that he was on his way to the National Stadium to attend a bowling camp when a vehicle rammed into his car from behind.

After the minor accident, Wasim Akram got out of his car expecting the other car to also park on the side. However, the driver of the car that hit him did not step out, instead one man came out from the car and chambered his pistol at Akram.

The crowd that had gathered told the pistol-wielding man that it was Wasim Akram, the former cricket captain that he was aiming at; the cricketer recalled that if the crowd hadn’t told the shooter he was aiming at a celebrity he might have shot at him.

According to DIG East Munir Sheikh, the police had retrieved the CCTV footage of the incident and vowed that identify of the attackers would be ascertained with the help of the excise department after sharing the registration number of the vehicle with them.
