LAKKI MARWAT: Security forces killed twelve militants in a gun battle followed by an attack on Army Colony in Lakki Marwat that left thirteen security personnel dead in wee hours of Saturday, official sources said.

According to the sources, the incident took place when at least 30 militants with heavy weapons attacked the army camp located in Serai Naurang town at 3 AM leaving 13 security men dead, including three Frontier Constabulary men.

The security forces surrounded the area soon after the incident and launched a counter attack, killing 12 militants in the ensuing exchange of gunfire, the sources said.

Sounds of explosions and firing were intermittently heard in the area, the sources added. The security personnel from Bannu also took part in the operation.

In earlier times, Serai Naurang was a residential area but after the security situation deteriorated in the area, security troops comprising 200 personnel set up a camp there in 2011.
