PIA resumes partial flight operations after five day closure

ISLAMABAD: Two Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights carrying 725 Umrah pilgrims from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia have arrived here on Sunday kicking off flight operations of the national flag carrier after the suspension of five days due to the ongoing protest by its employees against the government’s bid to privatise the airline.

Meanwhile, a PIA plane carrying passengers from Islamabad has reached Gilgit while another flight left Gilgit for Islamabad.

The government has appreciated the commitment of PIA staff to the greater national cause.

The PIA administration has also directed all employees to report to their respective duties at Lahore airport to start operations from the Punjab capital this evening.

Spokesman for PIA Daniyal Gilani told the media about a loss of Rs2.5 billion due to the strike till date. He expressed optimism regarding resumption of flight operations soon from other airports of the country.

Gilani added that the PIA staff returning to duties are being welcomed and provided ample security.
