World Bank president calls on PM Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told the World Bank president on Tuesday that his government wants to provide an environment conducive for private sector development, adding that it is not the job of governments to run businesses.

The World Bank President Jim Yong Kim called on the prime minister in Islamabad where the two discussed the various areas where Pakistan and the World Bank are engaged in cooperation.

The prime minister told the World Bank president that the banks support is proving helpful in completing the reform agenda.

Meanwhile, the World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said Pakistan is well poised to become the next fast growing successful economy due to the steps taken by the government over the past few years.

He pointed out the country has made significant progress to achieve micro-economic stability. Kim added that the government has introduced reforms in the tax system to enhance revenue.

He appreciated the steps undertaken by the present government improve business climate.
