Never claimed to have a degree in Broadcast Journalism: Reham
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s wife Reham Khan has given her official response to an allegation published in British media about her fake degree.

In an official statement for the media, she said she never claimed to have a degree in Broadcast Journalism, as she had completed a diploma in Broadcast Media that she obtained from Grimsby Institute Media Centre.

“There should no need to clarify. However I need to put the issue at rest. I categorically state that after completing my BA I undertook a one year postgraduate for a Diploma in Broadcast Media at Grimsby Institute Media Centre. (Code:0506BC34) which ended on 23rd June 2006.”

Terming the campaign by a UK newspaper as malicious and baseless, Reham stated that the timing of the attack on her educational qualifications is highly suspicious as the country is currently looking towards UK authorities in another high profile case which is far more serious than the national media discussing her educational qualifications.

Reham also tweeted that if you try to address real pertinent issues in Pakistan a select lobby attacks you. She added this came with the domain and could not deter her.

“This morning is a great example of why I have never picked up the Daily Mail and why I don’t watch Pakistani TV channels.”

She further said a few people had an agenda and the media was promoting their senseless propaganda.

Earlier, following the uproar, details on Reham’s official website were amended. The name of the institution was changed to Grimsby Institute, North East Lincolnshire. Whereas it originally said ‘North Lindsay College in Lincolnshire.’

This morning, British newspaper ‘Daily Mail’ had raised questions over the educational credentials of Reham Khan.

She started a postgraduate in Broadcast Journalism at North Lindsay College and did a 4 week placement with the BBC as part of the course.

According to Reham Khan’s personal website she did a four week placement with the BBC after starting a 'postgraduate course in Broadcast Journalism at North Lindsay College' in Lincolnshire.

When the paper contacted officials at North Lindsey they said such a course was never offered and the college does not teach journalism at all. There was also no record of anyone with Rehman Khan’s name or age having enrolled at the college.

The article was written by Sebastian Shakespeare, the same reporter who disclosed in January that Reham had married PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
