Arrest warrants issued for former Senate chairman Nayyar Bukhari, son

ISLAMABAD: A local court issued arrest warrants for former chairman Senate Nayyar Bukhari and his son on Thursday, a day after the pair thrashed a policeman at gates of the District Courts in the capital's F-8 area.

Muhammad Riaz, head Constable of Special Branch Islamabad who was deployed at the entry point, lodged a complaint against the former Senate chairman and his son.

Police at the Margala station registered an FIR against the former custodian of the Upper House under Sections 353/506/186/34 PPC.

Following the registration of the case at the Margalla police station, a local court issued arrest warrants for the two.

According to police sources, teams were dispatched to search for Bukhari and his son at their residence at Bara Kahu, where neither were present.

According to the police constable, he was deployed on duty outside the court and engaged in body search of people entering the premises, when two people entered without body search. The policeman alleged that former Senate chairman used profane language and verbally abused him when he asked to search him, while his son Jarrar Bukhari slapped him.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah said that he would raise the issue in Parliament, adding that the incident happened against a person who once held the office of Senate chairman.

Shah slammed the Inspector-General of Police in Islamabad for the FIR against Bukhari. He asked the police chief where he was when police personnel were attacked there.

Shah said, “The IG Islamabad is behaving as if he is more loyal than the king himself.”
