Rain kills 7 Orange Line workers in Lahore

LAHORE: At least seven people were killed and four others injured on Tuesday as rain lashed the city.

The wall of an under construction godown at Quaid-e-Azam interchange fell over labourers who were working on the Orange Line project. Two of them died on the spot while five others succumbed to their wounds at the hospital.

Two of the dead have been identified as Irfan and Maqbool.

The met department recorded 25.4 mm rainfall in the city, while winds blew at a speed of 74 kilometer per hour.

In a separate incident at D.I.Khan two people were killed when they were struck by lightning.

In Faisalabad, an eight-year-old girl died when the roof of a house at Ibn-Maryam Colony fell over her.

A rain spell in most of Punjab including Faisalbad, Lahore, Jhang and Chiniot broke the intense heat spell. According to the met department forecast no rain is expected today.
