JI begins three-day long anti-corruption train march

PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is set to begin its three-day long ‘corruption free’ train march, led by party Amir Sirajul Haq, from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital on Wednesday.

Speaking to Geo News here on Tuesday, JI General Secretary Liaquat Baloch said the train march will end by reaching Karachi on Friday, May 27. He said JI Amir Sirajul Haq will address party workers and supporters at 51 stops during the train march.

Baloch also oversaw arrangements made in connection with the march at the Peshawar Cantt Railway Station. He said the purpose behind staging the protest march was to mobilize the masses against prevailing corruption in the society.

The JI spokesman said the ruling elite of the country were unanimous on the issue of corruption and not on public issues.

Sirajul Haq had announced the country-wide protest against corruption in January. He said the rulers had plundered Rs293 billion and stashed away in overseas banks. He regretted that the youth were without jobs despite having degrees.

“None of them gets any job without paying bribe for it or getting endorsed,” he said during a media talk earlier this year.

The JI Amir vowed to boost the rate of literacy in the country to 90 per cent after coming into power. He said the youth with degrees will be given unemployment allowance till they find a job while the senior citizens of up to 70 years or more will also be paid an allowance.
