KARACHI: Opposition parties in Sindh Assembly have rejected the provincial budget presented by Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday.
After agitating and shouting slogan during the budget speech, the leader of the opposition Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan told the media that government has failed to present a realistic budget.
He said the opposition has rejected the "anti-people" budget presented by the Sindh government.
“Ramazan package was nowhere to be found in the proposed budget, even though costs of edibles have been skyrocketing,” he said.
Talking about the development funds for Karachi and Hyderabad he said it is too small an amount for a very large need.
He said opposition could throw papers and pencils on Chief Minister during the budget speech. Now it’s our turn to speak and government would have to listen passionately.
Earlier, the provincial finance minister presented the budget for fiscal year 2016-2017 with a total outlay of Rs869 billion. The new budget translates into a rise of around 15 per cent compared to fiscal year 2015-16.
Shah announced on the occasion 11 per cent increase in education budget allocating the biggest amount of Rs150bn while Rs55bn were set aside for health.
He complained that federal government still has not given Rs112 billion to Sindh during the outgoing fiscal year as announced by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
