BEIJING: Imagine walking into a nice comfortable furniture store, kicking off your shoes and taking a quick nap. Probably not possible anywhere else in the world, but at Ikea stores in China it is a regular site.

The Swedish retailed has 21 stores across China. The New York Times first reported that while snoozing is prohibited at Ikea stores across the world, in China the practice is permitted.

The Chinese have an innate ability to fall asleep anywhere in public and have no qualms about falling asleep in supermarkets, playgrounds, on bikes, even under parked vehicles.

In 2015, Chinese media reported that Ikea was planning on cracking down on ‘impolite behaviour’ by waking up customers who kick off their shoes or get too comfy under the covers. However those rules have not been implemented.

So if you’re in China looking for a quick (or not so quick) nap, Ikea could be an option, at least until they start cracking down against sleepy customers.
