KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating a massive corruption scandal worth billions of rupees involving former Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah's principal secretary.

According to NAB sources, Shah’s principal secretary Sohail Akbar allegedly gave contract unlawfully to a company, which was supposed to make coal-based electricity from the mines of Sindh.

According to NAB sources, Akbar gave the contract to Al-Fatah group on verbal orders from former CM Sindh.

They said the group, instead of generating coal-based electricity, sold in the market and making Rs2 billion worth profit.

Akbar has earned pre-arrest bail from Sindh High Court (SHC) while the NAB has requested cancellation of bail from the court.

SHC has also stopped interior ministry from issuing passport to the former principal secretary.

Akbar is currently the Additional Secretary Establishment.

Meanwhile Qaim Ali Shah has denied giving any verbal directions in this regard.
