LAHORE: Farmers’ protest at Lahore’s Charing Cross has ended after successful negotiations with Punjab government representatives in the wee hours of Thursday.

President Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Punjab Rizwan Iqbal said that a delegation would meet Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif today at 6pm to resolve the issues.

Earlier, the Charing Cross on Lahore's Mall Road and connecting arteries remained blocked for any kind of traffic due to the protest sit-in.

Many political figures also visited the venue and voiced their support for peasants.

The farmers were joined by teachers in their protest on Wednesday, while Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leaders Khursheed Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Manzoor Watto also arrived at the Charing Cross along with scores of workers and supporters to express solidarity with kisans.

Addressing the protesting farmers, Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah said the farmers were in a difficult situation due to government policies and vowed to help their voice reach in every nook and cranny of the country.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Sarwar also arrived at the spot to support the farmers.

Armed with batons, the peasants threw tomatoes on Mall Road as a sign of protests. They said that they will not leave the venue as long as their demands are not met.

The sit-in forced citizens and a large number of students to wander around the Charing Cross.

Tired of the situation, traders and locals demanded the government to fix a place for protest demonstrations and rid them of such difficult situations.
