"Ask any party if they have constructed a motorway. Ask any other prime minister of Pakistan or dictator if they have constructed a motorway. We began constructing motorways and now we will connect Karachi and Balochistan. Road networks are so important, they reduce distances, and promote development,” Prime Minister Sharif said.

The prime minister also stressed that when his government came into power the situation of electricity in the country was dire. "We have now started several electricity projects. Could have this not been done earlier? Was no one in the past concerned about Pakistan? Did nobody feel pain for Pakistan? Why was this not done, why was it such a big problem left for our government? Whether it is the electricity problem or terrorism."

50 new hospitals to be constructed

During the ceremony the prime minister also announced the construction of 50 new hospitals.

He said that the poor will get treatment at both private and public hospitals and if their medical bill is above Rs300,000 the government will help them.

He added that sometimes the poor are forced to sell their homes to pay off their debts.

During the ceremony health cards were distributed to deserving families. Speaking about the health program he said that it will benefit those who are unable to afford medical treatment.

He said that in his last tenure he had initiated a program for treatment of kidneys. “One wishes future governments continue such programs which help the public.”

Committed to ease life of common man

“I want to ease the lives of common people by giving them access to basic facilities in a respectable way, particularly better health services,” the Prime Minister said in his address.

The Prime Minister said poor people in the country had little or no access to healthcare and in case of diseases like cancer or cardiac diseases; they were unable to afford expensive treatment.

He said the PM’s Health Card scheme would enable patients’ access to public and private hospitals on panel, even for the treatment of cancer, cardiac issues including by-pass surgery and angioplasty, liver diseases such as hepatitis, pregnancy and post- natal complications, injuries and burns.

Terrorism will be eliminated

The Prime Minister vowed to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan soon, adding that the law and order situation in Karachi had been improved. "We decided to fight a decisive war against terrorism," Prime Minister Sharif said.
