LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday alluded to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan as  being ‘more harmful’ than Narendra Modi to Pakistan’s peace and prosperity.

Addressing a seminar earlier today, Shehbaz said the people of Pakistan should know by now who the real enemy to the country’s progress is. “It’s not Modi or any foreign agent, it’s those who believe in negative politics and want to shut down the capital,” he said.

The chief minister said Imran Khan wants to shut down Islamabad which would hinder the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. He said that the PTI leader, not any foreign agent, was responsible for the postponement of Chinese President’s visit to Pakistan and the delays in CPEC projects.

Criticizing Imran Khan’s plans for November 2 sit-in, Shehbaz said, “Why doesn’t Imran Khan spend the sit-in money on treating the sick or educating the uneducated instead?”

The minister said the public would not let Imran Khan shut down the country. “The people would not allow anything against Pakistan’s interests,” he said.

Highlighting the progress in CPEC, Shehbaz said that nowhere in the world does the work on any project start right after signing of the deal. He said that Sahiwal’s powerhouse was already on its way to completion much ahead of the schedule.

Reacting to Imran Khan's allegations of kickbacks and massive corruption, Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said he would file a Rs 26 billion defamation lawsuit against the PTI chief for leveling baseless accusations.
