ISLAMABAD: Audit officials on Thursday informed the Special Committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that former President Gen Zia-ul-Haq (retd) had allotted six valuable plots of worth billion rupees to his friends in the federal capital during his tenure.
The committee meeting held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Zahid Hamid was informed that during period 1982 the than president Gen Zia-ul-Haq while misusing of his authority had allotted these plots.
Secretary Cabinet Division Abdul Rauf Chaudhary informed the committee that these plots were allotted in Sector F-6, F-7 and F-8 of federal capital.
After receiving the information, the special committee referred the matter to the PAC central committee.
The committee was apprised that Capital Development Authority (CDA) had constructed 208 plots in Sector G-6 in 2001 to provide alternate residential place to the poor people of Aabpara.
It was further informed that during earthquake, these plots remained in use of quake victims, however Islamabad police have occupied 75 flats since Lal Masjid operation.
The committee was told that as the matter of transfer of these plots to the deserving people, which were constructed by CDA is still pending, the Ministry of Housing and Works didn't pay expenditure incurred on the construction of these flats.
The committee has directed the representatives of CDA, Islamabad police, Ministry of Housing and Works and Ministry of Law to attend next meeting of the committee to resolve the matter.
The committee also sought report from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on not getting permission from the Ministry of Finance regarding financial expenditure during 2001-02.
