LAHORE: The Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday lodged protest against the recent raise in the prices of Petroleum products, power tariff and essential commodities.

JI Ameer, Syed Munawar Hasan, addressing Jumma congregation at Mansoora mosque, criticised government policies regading price control.

JI chief said that prices were rising under the IMF pressure and the government was obeying without any let or hindrance. He said it had already been announced that there would be 2 per cent raise in the power tariff every month which he termed unfortunate.

He also criticised the Opposition and government allies for not playing their due role to provide relief to the masses. Munawar Hasan said that JI would continue its protest against price hike.

Later, a protest demonstration led by JI Punjab Ameer Dr Wasim Akhtar and Lahore Chief Amirul Azim was staged against price hike. The protesters including women and children carrying placards and banners chanted slogans against price hike and sugar crises.

The speakers addressing the participants demanded of the government to withdraw notifications of raising petroleum prices and electricity tariff in order to provide relief to the masses.
