Scores injured after escalator in Hong Kong mall suddenly reverses

At least 18 shoppers at a Hong Kong mall were injured on Saturday when an escalator suddenly reversed directions.

Chaos erupted when the crowded escalator at the Langham Place shopping mall shifted directions from upwards to downwards at a high speed, as shoppers lost their balance and started tumbling downwards.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, including a man who suffered a head blow and was in serious condition, CNN reported.
