According to an excerpt which was published by 'The Hollywood Reporter' of a new biography of former Paramount Pictures CEO Sherry Lansing, the movie studio was worried while casting the then-relatively unknown young actress.

In the early 2000s, Angelina was dating Billy Bob Thornton (whom she later married) and carried his blood around her neck in a vial, and there were rumors that she was using drugs.

The book claims that when casting the then 24-year-old Jolie for "Lara Croft," Lansing had concerns about Jolie's stability after she received calls about the actress from her father Jon Voight and family friend Jane Fonda.

According to Then-Paramount production president, John Goldwyn said that the studio had Jolie undergo random drug tests. Director Simon West recounts that Jolie was eager for the part and to prove herself.

As per the director, Angelina said: 'Look, I want to do it, but I know what my reputation is, and I'll do anything you want to prove that I'm worthy. I'll be reliable, and I'll turn up, and I'll work hard,'” recalled West in the book. "She said, 'I don't care if the studio wants to drug test me every day."

Thus, the book claims that the drug tests were administered.
