Meet the man with 42 children from six wives

QUETTA: As population and housing census are in full swing, cases of people with large families are coming to the forefront.

Recently, the case of Quetta’s Jan Muhammad, a father of 36 children, surfaced. However, leaving behind Muhammad is Nushki’s Abdul Majeed who has 42 children from six wives.

Abdul Majeed, who belongs to village about two kilometre away from Nushki, is the father of 42 children from six wives. The total number of children he has fathered is 54 but 12 of his children have passed away. Of the remaining 42, twenty-two are sons while 20 are daughters. This also includes a newborn baby boy.  The man, who is aged 70, is also a grandfather and seems to be quiet content with his life.

Majeed, who works in the transport industry, married twice again after two of his first four wives passed away, the marriages occurred over a period of time.

Majeed’s family was registered in the population census making it one of the largest families in Pakistan.

Similarly, another case of a large family came to the forefront recently. A father of 36 children, Jan Muhammad, was still waiting for census staff to register his big family.

Muhammad, a resident of Quetta, is the father of 36 children from three wives. He got first married in 1999 and his eldest child is 17-year-old. Muhammad works as a medical practitioner and a part-time businessman. Interestingly, it is expected that two more children will be born, bringing the tally to 38 children.

Jan Muhammad said that his total expenditure on his family is around Rs100,000.
