ABU DHABI: Pakistanis in the UAE showed love and enthusiasm on the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan and pledged to make Pakistan a strong and prosperous country.
Hundreds of Pakistanis from all walks of life gathered at the Pakistan embassy in Abu Dhabi and Pakistan consulate in Dubai to celebrate the independence day.
Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE Moazzam Ahmad Khan hoisted the national flag in the premises of the embassy followed by national anthem and national songs by students of Sheikh Khalifa Pakistan School in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking with media, the ambassador wished a happy independence to the community and said that independence should also be considered as a day of introspection and to ponder over as to how we can re-direct our energies to the development of Pakistan to be able to stand tall among the comity of nations.
A flag hoisting ceremony was also held in the premises of Pakistan Consulate in Dubai. A large number of people from the community thronged to the consulate early morning along with their families and children to mark the day with enthusiasm and gaiety.
Brigadier (Retd) Syed Javed Hassan, Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai hoisted the national flag while the national anthem was played. The messages of President and Prime Minister were read out to the audience.
Speaking on the occasion with Geo News, Consul General Brig (Retd) Syed Javed Hassan extended his warmest felicitations to the Pakistani community residing in the Emirates. He said that overseas Pakistanis should endeavour to emanate the message to the world that Pakistanis believe in peaceful coexistence and want to progress as a forward-looking nation.
Cake-cutting ceremonies were also held at both places to commemorate the Independence Day. Children were clad in their national dresses and waved their flags, chanting "Pakistan Zindabad" (Long live Pakistan).
The ceremonies concluded with prayers for progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country.
