ISLAMABAD: Senator Mushahid Hussain said on Monday that the decision by the government to not schedule Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif’s visit to the United States was correct as the current circumstances did not favour the minister’s visit.

Pakistan should instead first contact ally capitals which include Beijing, Ankara and Moscow to devise a plan of action feasible for the entire region, the senator said during a meeting of the House chaired by Senate Chairperson Raza Rabbani.

The draft of policy guidelines prepared in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s new Afghan policy was also discussed at the meeting.

While addressing the meeting, Mushahid Hussain said Pakistan should first work on the factsheet to see the amount of funds given by the US. He added funds were not given to Pakistan for the damage it incurred in the war against terror.

The policy will come under discussion once again at the National Security Committee meeting called on August 30.
