LEA raids lead to arrest of six suspects in Karachi, eight others in Lahore

KARACHI: An alleged drug smuggler was taken into custody Friday night in Malir during a raid conducted by the law enforcement agencies, Rao Anwar — the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Malir — said.

The suspect was identified as Waqar, Anwar said, adding that the raid was conducted after authorities received a confidential tip.

Almost 250 grammes of heroin, as well as a mobile phone and cash, were recovered from the detained suspect, who, according to the police, was involved in supplying drugs to the city's numerous areas, including Patel Para and Old Sabzi Mandi.

On the other hand, alleged street criminal Saif ur Rehman was detained in Orangi Town, SSP Anwar said, adding that weapons were seized from the arrestee.

Suspect shot dead near Noorani graveyard

One suspect was shot dead by the law enforcement agencies Friday night following an encounter near Noorani graveyard in Korangi's Zaman Town.

The detainee's accomplice, however, managed to escape arrest, police said.

The two dacoits were looting citizens in the area when police arrived and an exchange of gunfire took place, culminating in the death of one of them.

Authorities mentioned that weapons, cash, and mobile phone were recovered from the deceased suspect.

Kidnapping attempt foiled

Police foiled an attempt to kidnap a woman Friday night near Pakistan Bazaar in Orangi Town, Geo News reported, adding that four suspects were taken into custody consequently.

During the initial questioning, the suspects revealed that they attempted to kidnap the woman over a personal dispute.

Security authorities noted that the suspects used a vehicle that belongs to a non-governmental organisation (NGO) — the name of which remained unidentified.

Motorcycle accident

A man died in a traffic accident late Friday night when a motorcycle collided with a dumpster truck at Karsaz, near Shahrah-e-Faisal, rescue sources said.

However, no further details — including the name of the truck driver or the deceased — were available at the time of this reportage.

FIA raids

Eight suspects were taken into custody late last night following raids carried out in numerous cities of Punjab, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) stated.

The FIA arrested the suspects — accused of scamming people — during operations in numerous towns, comprising Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhang, Faisalabad, and Lahore.

Charges against the detainees include offering locals a chance to travel abroad as well job opportunities in the countries they travel to.

The agency said it has identified the suspects as Kashif, Sohail Badar, Ali Raza, Allahyar, Zafar Iqbal, Manzoor Hussain Baloch, Mian Altaf, and Imran.
