Pakistan is among the few countries with high levels of domestic violence. A research revealed that 90 per cent women in Pakistan face verbal, physical and mental violence.

On September 24, 2016, a case emerged of a husband assaulting his wife for failing to charge his mobile phone. The nature of the assault was so severe that the woman had to be hospitalised.

Police said the incident took place on the outskirts of Dera Ghazi Khan in Hasan Town. The couple had tied the knot six months ago.

The husband who has been identified as Faraz had asked his wife to charge the phone but she forgot to do so. This led to Faraz severely beating his wife with a stick, breaking her shoulder and leg.
