LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was taken back to Kot Lakpat jail from Services Hospital on Thursday.

The former premier, who is currently serving his prison sentence in the Al-Azizia Still Mills corruption case, was shifted to Kot Lakhpat jail amid tight security.

A day earlier, Nawaz had refused to go to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) Lahore and insisted on returning to Kot Lakhpat jail.

Nawaz had maintained that he was taken to the PIC before being shifted to the Services Hospital and felt it was not appropriate for him to be wandered around.

The Services Hospital’s medical board had on Tuesday recommended that Nawaz be shifted to a cardiac health facility.

On February 2, the deposed premier was shifted from the Kot Lakhpat prison to Services Hospital. A medical board constituted to monitor Nawaz's health had recommended that he be shifted to a hospital from prison.

Nawaz is serving seven years’ imprisonment in the Al-Azizia Still Mills corruption case.

‘Nawaz is being humiliated’

Speaking to reporters outside Services Hospital, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said her father was being humiliated, adding they had never asked the government for his treatment nor would they do so in the future. She further said they also did not need any pity from the government.

Maryam stated that Nawaz had been kept at the Services Hospital for the last four days which did not even have a cardiac unit. “Why was he kept at the Services Hospital? What was the medical board doing?”

Maryam added that the four boards had called for Nawaz Sharif to be shifted to a cardiac hospital, adding that the government had created doubt on his medical condition.
