KARACHI: The father of Nashwa, who died after allegedly being administered an excessive quantity of an injection, and the hospital management on Wednesday agreed to a settlement.

Qaiser Ali, the late infant's father, expressed his willingness to rescind the first information report (FIR) he had filed earlier against Darul Sehat, the private hospital, with the medical facility promising to set up a trust in Nashwa's name and donating Rs5 million to it each year.

Ali, who addressed a press conference here at the Karachi Press Club, also recorded his statement with police in this regard and said he reserved the right to reopen the case if there was a violation of the agreement on part of the medical facility.

On a request on behalf of the Nashwa Trust, the hospital would also grant full scholarship to one child studying at its college every year and a children's ward will be created in the late baby's name.

Terming the Sindh Healthcare Commission to be incompetent, Ali said the family of arrested folks continued to ask him to pardon them and, therefore, in the name of God, he has forgiven them.

Paralysed

On the morning of April 7, the nine-month-old Nashwa started to have trouble breathing after she was allegedly administered an excessive quantity of an injection.

Ali, her father, said she was taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) where she was administered CPR for 45 minutes. Nashwa was then put on ventilator but taken off it on April 12, whereafter doctors informed him that she "may have suffered brain injury" due to the CPR.

A subsequent CT scan of Nashwa revealed that her hands, feet, eyes, and mouth have been paralysed. She was shifted to a private hospital at Stadium Road on April 13 and breathed her last on April 22.
