Two major accidents in 21 days point towards dismal state of railways

KARACHI: Two major accidents just within 21 days have laid bare the dismal state of the railways and dereliction of duty by the staff.

On June 20, at least three people lost their lives when a passenger train collided with a freight train at Makli Shah.

Following the accident in Hyderabad, the schedule of trains was disrupted and to date has not been restored.

Trains are still delayed by hours after the accident on June 20.

The inquiry report of the accident has not been made public. Chief Executive Officer Pakistan Railways Aftab Akbar had called the accident a human error.

Akbar had said there were two unauthorised people present with the driver and assistant driver in the engine area at the time of the accident.

Earlier today, at least 11 people were killed and 67 others injured when a passenger train collided with a freight train near Sadiqabad.
