ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Friday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the illegal annexation of occupied Kashmir by India led by the Hindu nationalist government of Narendra Modi.

The resolution, which was moved by Leader of House Shibli Faraz, declared the annexation as an “attempt by India to change the demography of occupied Kashmir” as part of the racist and fascist agenda of Modi, inspired by the RSS ideology.

The annexation is an attempt to undermine the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, which accept the inalienable right of self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the resolution said.

The resolution observed that inspired by Nazi Germany, Modi’s government is perpetrating grave crimes against humanity in occupied Kashmir, turning the valley into the world's biggest “concentration camp” with its ongoing lockdown and communication blackout as the officials arrest, kidnap, torture, rape and martyr innocent Kashmiris.

The resolution also welcomed the recent UN Security Council meeting on Kashmir, and hailed the strong stance taken by friendly countries like China and Turkey as well as Iran in support of Kashmiris.

Addressing the House, Senator Mushahid Hussain said India’s decision to revoke Article 370 and annex occupied Kashmir is aimed at changing the demographic composition of the Muslim-majority valley. The decision, however, has unified the entire Kashmiri leadership and divided opinions within India, he said.

Hussain further pointed out the need to mobilise the international community to condemn India’s actions and stop the human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.

Senator Raza Rabbani criticised the silence of Muslim Ummah on the Kashmir crisis, and said only three countries: China, Turkey and Iran, openly supported Pakistan's stance on Kashmir.

Senator Rehman Malik termed Modi a “terrorist” and said his agenda is against Pakistan and Kashmir, and that he should be tried under war crimes.
