World Teachers' Day is commemorated annually on October 5. This day aims to focus on appreciating, assessing, and improving the status and situation of teachers across the world. It provides an opportunity to consider issues related to teachers and their profession.
One of the most essential qualities of a teacher is knowing how to handle a crowd. To be a good teacher, you need to possess a different kind of charm from within so people can enjoy listening to you—a significant reason why these celebrities lead their classrooms before they became famous.
Barack Obama
Barack Obama, most famous for being the 44th president of the United States, is characterised as a charismatic speaker. One of the reasons for this is probably because, before Obama became president, he spent a decade serving as a lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School.
The subjects he taught there were Constitutional Law and Race Theory. His experience in teaching plays a major role in making him an excellent speaker as it familiarised him with speaking in front of big crowds long before he became the US president.
According to students who had formerly studied from Obama, their professor was more pragmatic than ideological.
J.K Rowling
You’d be surprised to know that J.K. Rowling, author of the much-loved series of seven Harry Potter novels, was once a teacher in Portugal.
The author taught English at a language institute and, if it wasn’t for this profession, Harry potter probably would have never happened. It was during her time at the institute that she started writing the novels and eventually rose to become one of the most famous authors of children's books and literature.
Jesse Williams
Acting wasn't really the first career choice for Jesse William as he pursued teaching, following the footsteps of his parents even before that.
After completing secondary school, the actor went on to study for a double major in African American Studies and Film and Media Arts at Temple University. He later utilised his degree to serve as a high school teacher in the Philadelphia public school system where he taught English, American Studies, and African Studies.
Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone, a legend in the world of adventure figures, also served as a teacher at some point in his life.
The star went to boarding school initially and later enrolled in beauty school after he got done with his high school graduation.
Stallone, however, soon dropped out of beauty school to attend the American College of Switzerland, where the star studied drama and worked as a gym teacher as well.
Robert Frost
After coming back to the United States, Frost bought a homestead in Franconia, New Hampshire and soon took up a teaching position at Amherst College. Frost was nearly as renowned for teaching poetry as he was for composing it. The poet joined a summer teaching position at Bread Loaf School and taught there for the next 42 years. He also became the first ever writer in residence at a university.
Frost was a much admired instructor. His lectures were said to be very enjoyable and full of anecdotes and jokes, encouraging and motivating students to discover their individual voices.
