KASUR: A minor girl who was allegedly abducted on her way to Quran lesson at a local mosque near the city's Ali Park a day prior was, in fact, kidnapped by her own father to frame his opponents, the investigative police officer said Thursday.

Eight-year-old Tayyaba's father, Abdul Hameed, had on Wednesday registered a first information report (FIR), naming four suspects, including a woman.

Addressing a press conference here in the city, the superintendent of police (SP) for investigation, Abdul Quddus, said Tayyaba's father Abdul Hameed had kidnapped his own daughter.

The SP said the father had intended to kill her to frame his opponents by making a case similar to that of six-year-old Zainab Ansari, who was found dead in a garbage dump on January 9, 2018, after she was abducted, raped, and murdered.

Abdul Hameed planned to kill her and dump her body in a deserted place after waiting for two or three days, SP Investigation Abdul Quddus stated, adding that an FIR against the suspect would be registered on behalf of the state.

The police officer said her father was directly involved in the minor girl's kidnapping and that authorities successfully recovered her in 24 hours from Faisalabad. At least four suspects, including Tayyaba's father Abdul Hameed, have been arrested, he mentioned.

How did police catch the Kasur child killer?

Due to the menace of child abductions, rapes, and murders in the infamous Punjab city of Kasur, the case of eight-year-old Tayyaba was treated as a high-priority one.

SP Quddus said the parents have "some relatives in Faisalabad … the mother’s brother lives in Faisalabad, so we sent a team to Faisalabad and the girl was recovered from there".

The police officer added: "We were inconvenienced, and so were you all [media personnel]. The entire 'drama' wasted the time of police and media as well as the country’s resources.

"The parents were planning more, as we learned during the interrogation; this wasn’t supposed to end here.

The orders, he added, were that the "girl should be recovered alive no matter what".

Set up under the regional police officer (RPO), the team that successfully and in a timely fashion recovered Tayyaba would be given certificates of appreciation, as well as cash rewards, the SP announced.

Police had set up numerous search teams after they were first alerted, SP Quddus said, adding that they carried out numerous search operations and combed through houses, wilderness, local ruins, and under-construction buildings, as well as ponds and lakes.

Police teams on Wednesday had also made use of the Safe City Project's cameras and had cordoned off the area to conduct a search operation.
