Two of five Lahore men booked for gunning down woman over land dispute

LAHORE: Two of the five men booked for gunning down a woman and wounded her sister over a land dispute here in the city's Manawan area a day prior were arrested on Friday, police confirmed.

Police said they arrested two of the suspects named in a first information report (FIR) registered over the murder of 40-year-old Aliya. The case was filed on behalf of the deceased's sister and includes the clauses of murder and attempted murder.

Among the five suspects were Waqar, Muzammil, Rana Imtiaz, and Allah Ditta, as well as one unidentified men. While Rana Imtiaz and Allah Ditta were arrested earlier today, police said they were carrying out raids to search for and detain the rest.

Earlier, on Thursday, the deceased's family had protested against the police and blocked Lahore's Jail Road for almost an hour.

The deceased's bereaved family had alleged that the suspects were involved with the police and attacked knowing they had the authorities' support.

Police had explained then that the men had opened fire in an attempt to grab the estate from the five sisters, one of whom was killed and another wounded. Aliya had passed away, succumbing to her wounds in Services Hospital.
