British singer-song writer Yusuf Islam's media consultant, Pedro Carvalho, on Friday converted to Islam in the recently-inaugurated Cambridge Central Mosque in England.

Previously known as Cat Stevens, Yusuf Islam made a shift in his career, going from producing folk, pop, and rock music to Islamic melodies.

The singer's media consultant, after attending a congregational Friday prayer last week, had a conversation with the mosque's Turkish Imam, Ali Tos, saying he learnt a lot about the religion after working with Muslims.

Carvalho voiced his inquisition about Islam to Imam Tos and added that he was inclined towards the religion; however, he was "looking for the right time" to convert.

"If you're looking for the right time, the right time is now. We live in a world where we have no guarantee for another second, so the right time is right now," said Tos.

Carvalho asked Tos to "show him how to become a Muslim", after which the two went inside the mosque and the media consulted accepted Islam. He added that converting to Islam was an inner decision and "it's all to do with my feelings for the Almighty, for Allah".

After his conversion, numerous people in the mosque — including Yusuf — congratulated him. Carvalho's fiancee, whose family were very supportive of his decision, also joined her to-be husband's new faith.
