Pakistan and Melbourne Stars pacer Haris Rauf has been taking wickets and turning heads with his searing pace in Australia's Big Bash League but it turns out that he has been doing impressive feats off-the pitch as well.

Rauf, who was awarded the player of the match award on Sunday against Hobart Hurricanes for his five-wicket haul, gave the match ball to a security guard from India.

The guard "got emotional, cried and hugged" the Pakistani pacer for the gesture.

"I gave today's match ball to a security guy who is from India. When I came to the ground today I told him I am from Pakistan, he got emotional, he cried and he hugged me," he wrote on his Twitter handle.

Rauf, a product of Lahore Qalandars's development programme, has not played for Pakistan yet. However, he has impressed enough that Melbourne signed him as replacement for Dale Steyn as their overseas injury replacement.

Rauf was in fantastic form on Sunday, finishing with five wickets for just 27 runs in his four overs at an economy rate of 6.75 as the Hurricanes were sent back to the pavilion for just 111.
