British Muslim family torn apart after discovery of 27-year-old son's human remains

LONDON: The heartbroken family of murdered Mohammed Shah Subhani made a fresh appeal on Wednesday for information after the detectives found human remains belonging to the slain 27-year-old.

Subhani had gone missing in May 2019. Detectives found the human remains after searching land near Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire.

Mr Subhani's grieving family visited the site with the police to lay flowers, pray and pay tribute to the “loving and caring young man”. His baby daughter, who was born after he disappeared, also attended the site along with rest of the family members.

The family asked anyone with information about a vehicle used in the murder to come forward. A black BMW X5 which had been stolen from Farnborough, Hampshire on cloned plates of YC67 MFY was seen loitering near the forest around the time Mr Subhani disappeared.

Speaking to Geo, the family said that no one deserves what happened to their son. The family said the only thing they were looking forward to in their lives was justice for Subhani.

The family asked the members of public to inform the Metropolitan Police Service (MET)if there was anything suspicious they saw around Hedgerley Lane or Hounslow around May 7 2019.

Father of the victim said that the family was forced to hear the devastating confirmation that the human remains found did belong to his son and the confirmation brought more dread and devastation to the family.

He said the news had come as if someone had pulled the ground beneath the family and they had all been swallowed whole.

"We kept praying that he will walk through the doors but he never did. We think that we will find his remains just 15 miles from our home. We have always been good to everyone and never hurt anyone. I just don’t know why would someone kill my son. Its beyond my imagination.”

Subhai’s sister said: “These monsters maliciously killed our brother mercilessly and threw his body in an isolated woodland. We couldn’t even have fathomed this in our worst nightmares. Not only was Shah robbed of life, but also robbed of a rightful burial.”

In a statement. Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh, from Specialist Crime, who is leading the investigation, praised the family for speaking publicly to help the investigation, days after what would have been the victim’s 28th birthday.

"I believe that Shah’s discovery is something that his killer(s) were confident would never happen. However, whilst this was the worst possible news for his loved ones, I believe it presents potential opportunities for our ongoing investigation. I think that this area is only familiar to a small group of people. It is fairly isolated and you would probably have to know it existed, as opposed to it being stumbled across. It is not visible to a passing motorist.

“As I mentioned previously, the wooded area had evidence of spent shotgun cartridges, these are not connected to his death, but I am keen to speak to people who use this area for such recreational activities, particularly if they were here in early May last year.”

DCI McHugh continued: "A car parked up here would possibly appear out of the norm to locals who know the area. As already highlighted, the stolen black BMW on cloned registration plates YC67 MFY was seen on Hedgerley Lane in the days following May 7, when Shah was reported missing. This vehicle had two occupants and appeared to be loitering in the area. This car was subsequently recovered in Hounslow. We are very keen to understand who was using this vehicle particularly on May 7 and the following weeks.”

Detectives have so far arrested eight people in connection with the murder probe. All of them have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
