Committee formed to roll out 5G technology in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:  The Federal Ministry of Federal Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Wednesday formed a committee to provide a roadmap for rolling out 5G technology in Pakistan. 

According to a handout issued by the ministry, the '5G Pakistan Plan Committee' would develop a strategic plan and roadmap to introduce the latest technology in Pakistan by formulating working groups for development of 5G spectrum management telecom infrastructure and review of telecom regulations including health safety and 5G applications and use cases.

The committee will comprise members from the Ministry of IT, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) Prime Minister's SRIU (Strategic Reforms Implementation Unit), PM's Task force on IT, and representatives from telecom academia, cellular mobile operators, and telecom vendors.

Earlier, Zong, China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak), successfully conducted trials of its 5G wireless network — the first 5G trial in Pakistan .

Zong said 5G would bring profound and long-term changes to Pakistan's economic transformation, social progress, and people's livelihood improvement in future. "It is expected that 5G will have an impact on health care, agriculture and education."
