India soldiers ordered to delete Facebook, 89 other mobile apps

India has ordered its soldiers to immediately delete 89 social media applications, including Facebook, from their phones over fear of data compromise.

According to Indian media reports, social media applications that Indian soldiers have been ordered to delete include TikTok, True Caller and Instagram.

Also included are social networking apps such as WeChat, Share Chat, Viber, IMO, Samosa, Songs.pk, Shareit, PUBG, Tinder Hike, Likee etc.

Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane said that anyone who violates this order will face strict action.

India bans TikTok, other apps

TikTok was blocked on Google and Apple app stores in India after New Delhi said on Monday night it was among the 59 apps which it believed posed a "threat to sovereignty and integrity".

With more than 600 million downloads, India has accounted for 30% of TikTok's 2 billion downloads worldwide so far.

Recently, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi account on Chinese version of Twitter, Sina Weibo, was shut down after a request from the Indian embassy.

The move came after Indian and Chinese troops, in June, scuffled for several hours on their disputed Himalayan border. India said the clash led to the death of 20 Indian soldiers, while more than 70 were wounded.
