Country's weekly inflation increases by 1.37%: PBS

- On a year-on-year basis, the inflation based on the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for the combined income group increased by13.64%.
- Prices of 24 items increased, cost of five items decreased, while that of 22 items remained constant.
- The prices of vegetables have increased on average by Rs3-11 per kg.
- The items which recorded a decrease in their average prices include bananas and LPG cylinders.
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) Friday issued the weekly report on inflation in the country, suggesting a 1.37% increase for the combined income group going up from 153.16 points during the week ending on September 2, 2021, to 155.26 points in the week under review.
On a year-on-year basis, the inflation based on the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) increased 13.64%. The SPI for the lowest income group increased 1.60% compared to the previous week. The index for the group stood at 167.82 points against 165.18 points in the previous week. The weekly inflation for the lowest income group increase by 17.20% on a year-on-year basis.
During the week ending on September 9, the prices of 24 items increased, the cost of five items decreased, while the prices of 22 items remained constant.

The 20-kilogram bag of flour became expensive by an average of Rs57.85, bringing the average price of a 20kg bag to Rs1,222.7, while the chicken is being sold at 214.47 per kg after its rate went up by Rs15.27.
In addition to this, the price of ghee was increased by Rs4.75, taking the price up to Rs342.66 per kg and the price of onions per kg increased by Rs11.92, taking the price up to Rs214.47 per kg.
The prices of other vegetables have increased on average by Rs5-10 per kg. In addition, fresh milk, yoghurt, mutton, rice, and lentils became more expensive.
The items which recorded a decrease in their average prices include bananas, which became cheaper by Rs2.53 per dozen, and domestic LPG cylinders, which became cheaper by Rs49.70.
