Can Karachi expect a heatwave in Ramadan?

• Chief meteorologist says weather is likely to intensify in Karachi after April 5.
• The temperature will rise after the first week of Ramadan.
• March 27 (Sunday) was the hottest day of the year so far.

KARACHI: The temperature is likely to rise after the first week of Ramadan, chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz warned on Monday.

Speaking during Geo News programme Geo Pakistan, Sarfaraz said that the weather is likely to be better during the first few days of Ramadan.

He, however, added that after April 5, the weather is likely to intensify and temperatures will rise after the first week of Ramadan.

The chief meteorologist said that the month of April is usually hotter compared to March.

Meanwhile, regarding daily weather updates, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that the temperature is expected to fall to 34°C-36°C in Karachi from today.

The Met Office said that sea breeze will blow normally during the two days; however, the city will witness searing heat from March 30 to April 1.

Hottest day of 2022

On Sunday, dry weather gripped Karachi under the influence of a high-pressure area in the upper atmosphere of Pakistan, resulting in an extremely hot day in the city with the mercury touching 40.5°C and relative humidity (RH) dropping to as low as 8%.

A large number of people remained indoors due to the hot and dry conditions in Karachi, and most streets remained deserted as Sunday (March 27) was the hottest day of the year so far.
