  • Self-published writer accused of murdering husband.
  • Years before incident, she writes an essay titled, "How to Murder Your Husband".
  • Trial judge excludes the essay from evidence.

The trial of a self-published romance novelist who wrote "How to Murder Your Husband" has started for the murder of her husband, CBS News reported.

Nancy Crampton Brophy was arrested in 2018 for allegedly shooting her 63-year-old spouse, Daniel Brophy.

Reportedly, Brophy was shot while he was preparing for work at the Oregon Culinary Institute in Southwest Portland. His students found him dead in the classroom.

Years before this incident, the accused had written an essay titled "How to Murder Your Husband".

However, the trial judge excluded the essay from evidence.

"Any minimal probative value of an article written that long ago is substantially outweighed by the danger of unfair prejudice and confusion of the issues," the judge said.

Investigators found multiple clues that led them to suspect the wife of the deceased. There are no other suspects in the case.

A neighbour even noted that the author did not seem sad at her husband's demise.

The trial is expected to last seven weeks.
