Google Docs will now allow users to react to text with emojis instead of written comments, Google Workspace announced in a post.

The tech giant said that the feature will have all the emoji available in the latest Emoji 14.0. The latest release includes gender-neutral options.

Google has shared a GIF that shows what the feature will look like. It will appear as a third option with "add comment" and "suggest edits" once the text is highlighted. The emoji catalogue can be searched as well.

Google said that this is “a less formal alternative to comments".

The feature will be available as default to users after April 20th.

The emoji will be available for “Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus” subscribers.

Emoji reaction is not new. Many social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram stories allow users to use emoji as a response. However, in a formal setting, this is probably the first time.

The company has been going through an overhaul with multiple updates rolling out each day.
