RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (RCTP) issued 66,668 challan tickets to traffic rules violators during February with fines amounting to over Rs13.9 million while about 1799 vehicles and motorcycles were impounded in various police stations on severe traffic rules violations.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ghulam Abbas Tarar informed that city traffic police under its efforts for the smooth flow of traffic on city roads took stern action against traffic rules violators and a number of drivers were also sent behind the bars during the period.
CTO said that action in accordance with the law was taken against the violators while 1158 vehicles with tinted glasses were fined, 6186 vehicles were issued challan tickets on creating traffic hurdles for others, 435 under age drivers and 6687 drivers were issued challan slips on wrong side driving.
Similarly 2345 drivers were issued challan slips on use of mobile phone while driving during the period.
As many as 3543 drivers of vehicles and motorcycles on violation of Line/Lane and Zebra crossings were fined.
CTO informed that 4078 motorcyclists without helmet were given challan slips, 2368 public service vehicles on violation of route permit, 349 vehicles without registration, 349 on pressure horns, 119 without proper light, 607 on rash and dangerous driving were issued tickets.
CTO informed that several special campaigns are launched against one-wheeling, use of mobile phone and to check other traffic violations.
City Traffic Officer informed that special efforts are made to educate the citizens regarding traffic rules and road safety. Education Wing of Traffic Police has been making efforts to spread awareness so that the road journey could be made safe and sound.
The CTO urged the people to cooperate with traffic wardens as they are on the roads to facilitate them. A special squad is available to help and facilitate the citizens on Helpline 1915, he added. (APP)
