NEW YORK: A menu from aboard Titanic, newspapers from the time of the maritime disaster, and other relics related to history's most famous sunken ship are to go on sale Saturday in New York.

Set to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Titanic's loss in the north Atlantic, killing more than 1,500 people, the auction at Bonhams also features an original ticket to watch the launching in Belfast, Northern Ireland, of what had been billed as an unsinkable ship.

The ticket is estimated to be worth $50,000-70,000, while an account of the rescue operation by Arthur Henry Rostron, captain of the ship Carpathia which picked up survivors, is estimated at $90,000-120,000.

The Titanic menu from April 12, 1911, is estimated at $25,000-35,000.

Letters written by survivors and memorabilia from the hit 1997 film "Titanic" are also for sale.

And a piece of carpet that was made for the Titanic, but never even used, is on offer with an estimated price of $15,000-25,000. (AFP)
